In the framework of the project “PREPARE: Promoting Environmental Protection and Learning on Climate Change” the Municipality of Metamorfosis in cooperation with the non-profit organization Symplexis organized an event on January 23, 2024 at the Metamorfosis Conference Center. The main objective of PREPARE is to raise awareness about green skills and the professions of the future that revolve around sustainability, ultimately strengthening the green economy. The project aims to enhance the relevant skills of young people who have just entered the labour market, as well as to train municipal employees on topics such as designing capacity building programmes and promoting synergies between stakeholders, bringing together NGOs and local authorities.
During the event, the participants were informed about the objectives and progress of PREPARE, while the results of the research carried out in the framework of the project in Greece, Turkey, North Macedonia and Italy were presented. The aim of the survey was to assess the level of citizens’ familiarity with sustainability in tourism and the concepts of active citizen participation, green jobs and skills, as well as local and European practices that promote sustainability. During the event the Case Studies and Transnational Findings Booklet was also presented. The booklet includes the results of the aforementioned research, good practices in the field of sustainable tourism in the 4 countries and policy recommendations at European level.
The event was attended by more than 60 participants, including municipal employees, young people and representatives from sustainability organisations. During the event we had the opportunity to talk to the participants and get their feedback on the results of the survey and on sustainability and the existing practices at a local level.
